SEND Norfolk

The following was posted on the SEND Norfolk Facebook page:

‘Every child – no matter where they come from – every child matters. They all deserve an education.’
This is the ethos of St. Nicholas Priory CE VA Primary School in Great Yarmouth where ‘learn, love and serve’ is the thread that runs through everything they do.

We’re talking to schools across Norfolk about how they make sure children and young people with SEND are included and well supported.

At St Nicholas Priory the key has been rethinking what mainstream education looks like.

The school has a tiered approach to SEND, offering different pathways to meet need. Everything it does aims to make sure children from the local community are well supported so they can stay within their local school community.

Pivotal to this are their two Enhanced SEND Provision (ESP) or small group support units – The Pod and The Snug.

Here is what teachers, children, parents and a governor had to say.

Mums said:
‘They do a lot of one to one with the children, finding their strengths and their weaknesses and really supporting them in the way that they need it.’
‘He wants to go to school, if he’s poorly and he can’t go to school, he cries, because he loves school so much now. Before he didn’t. But now he’s in that little community in The Snug, he really is flourishing.’
‘It’s my son and daughters’ confidence as well, before they wouldn’t even be interested in talking to anybody. They’d be very quiet. But now their confidence is way up there.’

About Us

We believe that it is important to raise every child’s aspirations, and to provide the opportunities for them to experience success, develop their skills, and broaden their horizons
